Community Cooking Days

Community Cooking Days volunteers help Kitchens for Good prep for their hunger relief meal productions. Working under the direction of their Lead Cook, volunteers chop produce and package meals. Volunteers play a pivotal role in providing hundreds of meals to local elementary school students on a daily basis.

The meals volunteers prepare are provided to partner nonprofits like Jewish Family Service, Just In Time, Heavens Windows and others who deliver these ready-to-eat wholesome meals to homebound seniors, young people in foster care, and after-school centers serving at-risk youth. For some in our community, this balanced meal is the only food they may eat that day.

Volunteer activities may include: food prep (gleaning, slicing, dicing, saucing, zesting) cooking, meal assembly, packaging, cleaning, wiping down tables, mopping, washing dishes, and sweeping.

Project Requirements & Important Notes

  • Attire: Closed-toe, no-slip shoes, t-shirts/sleeved shirts, and long-pants are required.  Long hair must be tied up in a ponytail. All jewelry must be taken off prior to the session (watches, rings, etc.). Gloves, hairnets, and aprons are provided.

  • Physical Ability: Volunteers will be standing for 2-3 hours, bending, and lifting up to 2 pounds.
