Coordinator of AmeriCorps VIP
Kim is an advocate of volunteering, national service, and civic engagement. She is currently living that passion as the Coordinator of AmeriCorps VIP in San Diego County. Originally from Michigan, she graduated with a degree in Broadcast & Cinematic Arts and Media Design, Production, & Technology and then headed west.
The journey of Kim’s nonprofit career started with her time serving in AmeriCorps NCCC and VISTA. From there she has had the opportunity to work on many projects with community organizations throughout the county. As a recent returned Peace Corps Volunteer, she has brought aspects of the Azerbaijani culture back with her often hosting traditional dinners and cultural experiences for those around her.
When Kim is not volunteering, you can find her outside. It can be anything from running to hiking to gardening to taking a snooze in a hammock at a park. She believes that life is balanced and centered when time is spent in the great outdoors. Kim is also driven by the power of storytelling and has even experimented with recording interviews and stories of those around her.
I wanted to get involved on the board because I started as a volunteer, then team leader, then committee member, that's been my growth track at HOSD. It kind of happened really organically as I like volunteering and that's where my passion led me. I don't know there was a specific instance.
