It is also a busy time for volunteer projects, so register early as spots fill up quickly this time of the year. Below is a list of holiday-oriented volunteer opportunities throughout San Diego County.

HandsOn Projects

Holiday Pop Up Shoppe Set Up

Volunteers will help decorate, set up, and place donated items for the Hannah's House Holiday Pop Up Shoppe which is a free and dignified shopping experience to the Hannah's House families. The Shoppe will bring hope and holiday spirit to the families that Hannah's House serves. Project Requirements & Important Notes Attire: Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. Physical Ability: Able to bend, pull, stack, sort or change position frequently for decorating and items arrangements. Volunteers will be moving items weighing 25 pounds or less. About Hannah's House Hannah's House is a family center that provides a safe place for children caught in the middle of Family Court custody disputes, a place where children can come together with their parents in a nurturing, supportive and protective environment.

Holiday Toy Distribution

The H.O.P.E. Toy Drive is a free event on December 22nd where 3,000+ children ages 0-12 will be able to pick-out there own toy (while supplies last). There will be food, clothing, haircuts, face painting, inflatable jumpers, and carnival games. Volunteers on December 21st will be helping New Vision Christian Fellowship set-up for this major event. Volunteers on December 22nd will be passing out clothing donations to kids and running carnival games as well as setting up and tearing down the event. Project Requirements & Important Notes Attire: Closed-toe shoes are required. Dress warm and comfortably. Do not bring bags - there will be nowhere to store personal belongings. Physical Ability: Volunteers will be lifting items weighing up to 25 pounds. Religious Observance: New Vision is a Southern Baptist Christian Fellowship organization. Volunteers may choose to participate or opt out as desired in any prayer services that are observed. About New Vision Christian Fellowship We are a group of believers who long to express their love to God and to others. We've come to realize that we are broken people who have been restored by the healer’s hand. We acknowledge that we don’t know it all, but know the one who does. We invite others who have been broken to join us on a journey where we can discover the healers hand together and restore us back to a right relationship with Him and each other.

Outreach Help for Holiday Dinners

Volunteers needed to help with outreach for our early holiday meals on November 17 and December 15. Arrive at the Rescue Mission at 8:30AM for a quick training and then divide up in groups to walk the streets and invite the homeless to the meal later that day. The shift is 8:30AM – 10:30AM. Great for individuals, families or groups!

San Diego Run for the Hungry

The 17th annual San Diego Run for the Hungry will draw over 4,000 participants and a few hundred four-legged friends to walk/run a 5k and 10k course throughout Downtown, East Village, Gaslamp, and Little Italy on Thanksgiving morning. Volunteers assist with set-up, registration, water stations, course monitoring, finish line support, and clean-up.

Join us as a #DignityDefender this holiday season by volunteering or donating items for our annual Winter Survival Supply Distribution! We will be collecting and distributing a variety of necessary supplies, such as flashlights, warm clothing, pet supplies, and more, to those living on the streets in San Diego on Sunday, Dec. 2nd from 8am - 11am at the corner of 14th and K St. downtown.

Del Mar

Holiday Baskets provides a dignified and free shopping experience to over 6,000 individuals in need, including over 3000 children, 300 seniors, and survivors of domestic violence. CRC and volunteers transform the Del Mar Fairgrounds Grand Stand into a holiday pop-up shop, where participants can select holiday gifts, including blankets, outerwear, toys, 500 bikes, infant and toddler items and more. Each family also receives a 50-pound food box with all the fixings for a holiday meal, a chicken or turkey, fresh produce, and nutritious staples for two weeks.

Wreaths Across America will be at Miramar National Cemetery to Remember and Honor our veterans through the laying of Remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country's fallen heroes and the act of saying the name of each and every veteran aloud.
