HandsOn San Diego works in partnership with nonprofits, schools, religious, civic, and governmental organizations to provide volunteers with a variety of meaningful opportunities for service and leadership while filling our community’s needs. We are an affiliate of the Points of Light Global Network, a network of innovative volunteer-mobilizing organizations located in more than 250 cities and 37 countries around the world.

Partnership Process

In order to provide our volunteers the best experience possible, we're unable to post volunteer opportunities for organizations that have not completed our partnership process. The process to become a partner typically takes about 4 weeks so please reach out to us at least 8 weeks before you need our support recruiting volunteers.

  1. Confirm that your organization isn’t already a partner by checking the list of our Partner Organizations.

  2. Check that your organization is eligible (more information here):

    • Organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, government agency, or school in San Diego County - must have liability insurance to protect volunteers.

    • Does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital or veteran status, or the presence of a non-related medical condition or disability.

    • Projects provide a direct impact to the community (not a fundraiser, gala, 5K, etc.).

  3. If your organization meets the above eligibility criteria, fill out the Nonprofit Partner Application. A HandsOn staff member will reach out to you to schedule a call to confirm that your project is a fit within 2 business days.

  4. Identify a staff member or volunteer at your organization to manage volunteer check-in, attendance, and emails.

  5. Schedule a Nonprofit Partner Orientation with HandsOn staff. Each staff member that will be leading HandsOn volunteers and/or using our portal to verify attendance will need to be trained.

  6. Sign and submit our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

  7. Submit all project details for the calendar post using our Project Info Sheet.

Corporate Volunteering Partnership

Our staff works with you to design and manage a customized, done-in-a-day volunteer event in support of your organization. We coordinate the project from start to finish, supply any necessary tools and materials, and provide staffing to lead the volunteers the day-of.

  • Generally take place during the workday (Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm)

  • Groups are rarely less than 25 people, but can be as large as 1000+

  • Because companies plan these events with specific dates in mind, we can rarely shift these dates to accommodate pre-existing work days and events

Corporate Volunteer Project Process

  1. Fill out the Nonprofit Projects & Donations Wish List Form with your organization’s needs that require a supply budget

  2. HandsOn staff will reach-out to you upon receiving an inquiry from a corporate group that could align well with your organization’s needs.

  3. HandsOn staff will confirm the project details with your organizations before confirming with the corporate group.
