Assemble Literacy Kits with Words Alive Crafting Crew

Want to help families build healthy reading habits by engineering fun and engaging activities for families to explore stories together at home? You can support families in our community by taking home a crafting bundle to prepare supplies for specific projects! No crafting or artistic experience required - instructions are provided for each kit.

Tasks typically involve tracing, cutting, and sorting. Students will pick-up supplies at UCSD Town Square and assemble kits individually in their residence hall or in groups of 3 or fewer in accordance with 3’s company guidelines. By helping with kit assembly, you help provide essential learning activities for kids and youth at home during this pandemic.

Below are examples of how Words Alive literacy kits assist with local children & youth literacy:

  • Keep Head Start families reading early and often at home when schools closed in spring 2020

  • Nurture summer reading habits for elementary age children across City Heights

  • Facilitate a school-wide mental health initiative with homeless students at The Monarch School

  • Elevate foundational literacy skills of preschoolers and kindergartners in Oceanside

  • Infuse out-of-school time programs with reading support at Boys & Girls Clubs

  • Reengage teens in virtual learning in San Ysidro High School

  • Support teen moms at The Lindsay Community Day School in their role as co-educator
