Opportunity Details

Art from the Heart

Volunteers will create paintings to beautify the living spaces of people who have moved from homelessness to permanent housing. This project will be led in the style of a virtual “paint night” where an artist guides you in painting an image. The painting instructions will be recorded so you can follow along on your own schedule.

Wall décor enhances the style and comfort of their new homes. Physical space can affect a person's mood and self esteem. By participating in this project and creating a work of art to beautify a new home, you can help send the message that someone cares. The paintings that are created will be donated to 3 homeless services agencies: Humble Design, People Assisting the Homeless (PATH), and Alpha Project.

Pick up a kit of supplies for your painting at Town Square (just south of Yogurtland, where the Farmer’s Market is normally located). Each kit includes a 16"x20" high quality canvas, paint, brushes, water cup, mixing palette and paper towel. There are 5 different painting designs that will be randomly assigned to students unless you sign up for the live painting session which will be of a blooming cactus.

The finished paintings will be collected for donation on March 25th, 9am - 4pm at Town Square.

All volunteers must sign and agree to United Way of San Diego County's Release and Waiver of Liability.

About the Beneficiary Organizations

Humble Design serves individuals, families, and veterans emerging from homelessness by transforming empty houses into welcoming homes using donated furniture and household goods. Their warehouses are curated by design teams that personalize homes based on their clients’ needs and preferences. More than a makeover, it’s a start over.

PATH is ending homelessness for individuals, families, and communities. They do this by building affordable housing and providing supportive services throughout California.

The mission of the Alpha Project is to empower individuals, families, and communities by providing work, recovery and support services to people who are motivated to change their lives and achieve self-sufficiency.
