FOOD: Prep & Harvest Produce Boxes

Botanical Community Development Initiatives hosts a weekly produce box distribution to help supplement the diet of Oceanside families with fresh produce that they may not otherwise be able to afford. This project was started as a direct result of the pandemic.

Volunteers assist with the assembly of cardboard boxes which will be packed the following day with local produce to be distributed to families in Oceanside negatively effected by the ongoing pandemic. Additionally, volunteers assist with the harvesting and washing of any vegetables or herbs that are destined for the produce boxes.

If time allows, you may be involved in planting or potting, depending on your preference. Right now they are between seasons, and there is not much ready to harvest so there will likely be time for planting.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

  • Attire: Wearing a mask and closed-toe shoes are required. The box assembly will be done indoors, but be prepared for working outdoors as well. Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty.

  • Bring: Water and sun protection (ex: hat, sunscreen, etc.)

  • Waiver: Please bring a signed BCDI waiver with you when you volunteer.
