Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Field Monitors Needed

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego provides numerous sports for middle school kids in the area to participate in after school, but they can't host those programs without the support of volunteers as coaches, assistant coaches, and field monitors.

Coaches (must be 16 or older) communicate via email with the Boys & Girls Clubs and parents regarding practices and games, and they must be able to commit for the duration of the season.

Assistant coaches (must be 16 or older) are responsible for the children until they are turned over to a parent or guardian before leaving the field or gym and must commit for the full season.

Field monitors (can be 14 or older) answer questions such as which field a team is playing on and collect and submit any injury reports while maintaining the first aid kit. Field monitors must also commit for the full season.

Project Requirements & Important Notes

Key Responsibilities:

• Coaches: Teach sports fundamentals, promote teamwork, communicate with parents and staff, supervise youth until picked up

• Assistant Coaches: Support the coach in teaching skills, supervise youth until picked up

• Field Monitors: Set up and break down equipment, monitor games and practices, address any issues, submit injury reports, maintain first aid kit

​Required Skills/Experience: 

• Knowledge and ability to teach fundamental skills of the sport

• Strong positive communication skills

Desired Skills/Experience:

• Spanish language skills

Time Commitment: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday the duration of the season at times designated for the team you are working with.

Onboarding Process: Volunteer application, reference checks, background check, fingerprinting, read and sign waiver, read and sign Code of Conduct, complete three online training modules, and in person orientation. This process takes about 2 - 3 hours to complete.

Physical Requirements: Ability to walk short distances and stand for extended periods. Unfortunately this opportunity is not able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations and the space where this project takes place is not wheelchair accessible.

Attire: No inappropriate words printed on clothing, jeans and shorts okay, tight or revealing clothing is not allowed, closed toed shoes are required.
