HELP OUT: KPBS San Diego Book Festival Volunteering
Let’s bring our community closer together through the shared experience of reading and discussing great books! The inaugural KPBS San Diego Book Festival on the University of San Diego campus is a free event for book lovers of all ages from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday August 23. Attendees will enjoy panel discussions with award-winning authors, activities, live entertainment, exhibitors including local authors and independent booksellers, and more.
HandsOn San Diego will be managing volunteers for the Book Festival. Volunteers are needed to support the Book Festival behind-the-scenes to ensure the event runs smoothly. Volunteers will serve as panel escorts, assist with book signing lines, provide support in panel session rooms, answer questions at the info booth, help out with exhibitor check-in, and help with wayfinding. Descriptions of each of these roles can be found in the shifts below. Before or after your shift, you are welcome to enjoy the festival.
An online orientation will be provided to volunteers on Monday August 18 from 6:00pm - 7:00pm. Volunteer Leaders, Panel Escorts, and Info Booth volunteers will be required to attend or to complete a quiz after watching the recording. All volunteers are encouraged to attend.
Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

Attire: Each volunteer will be given a volunteer t-shirt to wear during their shift. Please wear comfortable closed-toe shoes. Most roles will take place outdoors so dressing in layers and wearing sun protection, such as a hat and sunscreen, is recommended.

-
Physical Requirements: Volunteers will be standing during most or all of their shift. Some roles may require significant amounts of walking. This project is able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations. If accommodations are needed, contact the Opportunity Coordinator prior to the event to make sure you receive a role that works for your physical ability. The space where this project takes place is wheelchair accessible.
-
Waiver: Volunteers under the age of 18 must bring a waiver signed by their parent/guardian for the SDSU Research Foundation (KPBS' parent organization).
