Volunteer Engagement Committee Member

HandsOn San Diego is dedicated to volunteer action—so much so that we are a volunteer-powered organization. As such, we are always looking for additional committee members. Each committee meets virtually at least once a month and has representatives from our staff and advisory board present.

The Volunteer Engagement Committee plays a key role in creating and coordinating our signature events—VolunBEERS and VolunCHEERS—which strengthen community connections and celebrate volunteerism across San Diego. VolunBEERS is a quarterly service project hosted at local breweries or restaurants, where up to 100 volunteers gather to complete hands-on projects for local nonprofits—all while enjoying good company and craft drinks. VolunCHEERS is our annual volunteer appreciation celebration, held each April during Global Volunteer Month. Planning begins in the fall and involves coordinating logistics, securing donations, and creating a fun and meaningful recognition event.

Volunteer Engagement Committee member responsibilities include: 

• Researching and building relationships with local breweries, volunteers, and nonprofit partners.

• Researching and exploring community needs for quarterly VolunBEERS events

• Promoting VolunBEERS on community calendars, creating social media posts, flyers, etc.

• Improving volunteer experience (venue logistics, collect volunteer feedback)

• Increasing donations and helping to solicit in-kind donations to cover the cost of materials

• Outreach to potential sponsors

This is a remote/hybrid opportunity. Volunteers are welcome to utilize our office space while working on their tasks or work from where they’re most comfortable! For the full position description, please refer to our position description. Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

• Time Commitment: Flexible, 3-6 hours/month for at least 6 months. 

• Onboarding Process: Application, interest phone call, background check, and orientation. This process typically takes 1-2 weeks.

• Desired Skills/Experience: Interest in or experience with fundraising, event planning, craft projects, volunteer management, and/or project management

• Physical Requirements: This opportunity is able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations.

• Location: This opportunity takes place remotely with occassional meetings at event venues.
