ECO: Waste Station Warriors at San Diego EarthFest

Help contribute to Earth Month by making the Balboa Park EarthFest sustainable and zero-waste! Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about the impacts of food waste in our communities and how waste is collected and sorted locally.

EarthFest is an annual Earth Day celebration in Balboa Park with 100 exhibitors, live entertainment, speakers, food trucks, wellness experiences, and family-friendly activities. Volunteers will assist with zero-waste event efforts including educating attendees and sorting and weighing waste to divert recycling and organics from our local landfills.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with making EarthFest zero-waste by educating attendees and providing waste sorting services. Volunteers will assist with event set up/breakdown, waste stations, trash diversion stations, clothing swap, and vendor management.

Training Provided: Training will be provided onsite.

Attire: Wear comfortable shoes and clothing that are weather appropriate. This opportunity takes place outdoors with little or no shade, so volunteers should wear sun protection such as sunscreen and a hat.

Bring: Water and utensils/container for takeaway food.

Physical Requirements: Lifting and standing for portions of the volunteer shift. This project is able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations and the space where this project takes place is wheelchair accessible. Seated volunteer opportunities are available.

Waiver: Please complete the required SIS Volunteer Waiver before your shift. 

Weather: The event will occur rain or shine.
