HELP OUT: Reality Changers Annual Scholar Celebration

Reality Changers is a nonprofit that supports first generation college graduates to become agents of change in their community. Their Annual Scholar Celebration is a day of celebrating of their graduating seniors, their families, and all of their accomplishments. Scholar Celebration takes place at the Zoo and is an evening of fun and excitement for all involved!

All volunteers will receive a day pass to the Zoo, compliments of Reality Changers, and are free to explore the Zoo before or after their shift.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

Key Responsibilities:

• Set Up: Set up volunteers will help set up the Zoofari "staging" area and the Wegeforth Amphitheatre for the ceremony. This may involve lifting and carrying boxes or unpacking supplies.

• Ampitheatre Greeters: Volunteers will stand outside the Wegeforth Ampitheatre and enthusiastically welcome guests to the ceremony and/or help guide guests inside the amphitheatre.

• Afterparty: Volunteers will run tables and help distribute prizes to guests after the ceremony.

• Farewell wishers: Volunteers will excitedly thank students and guests for attending and wave them towards the exit.

Skills & Qualifications: 

• Event experience such as customer service, guest check in, set up, ushering, and break down is desired.

• Volunteers should be willing to speak to guests and kindly direct them to various meeting points throughout the Zoo. Some volunteers will assist with set up and break down of the event spaces and should be comfortable carrying boxes and doing small assembly work.

Training Provided: All training will be provided! This will likely be a one-hour virtual orientation ahead of time.

Attire: Volunteers should wear clean, casual attire, comfortable shoes, and are encouraged to wear any college gear (t-shirts, hats, etc). This opportunity takes place outdoors with little or no shade, so volunteers should wear sun protection such as sunscreen and a hat.

Bring: A full water bottle and sunscreen. Volunteers will be outside at the Zoo for the duration of their shift.

Physical Requirements: Most volunteers will be asked to stand in one spot to direct attendees, and some will be asked carry up to 25 lbs. Volunteers may request chairs if needed. This project is able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations. The space where this project takes place is wheelchair accessible.

Translation Services: A Spanish speaker is sometimes present at this project but it cannot be guaranteed. En ocasiones habrá un hablante de español presente en este proyecto, pero no se puede garantizar.

Waiver: All volunteers must complete the Reality Changers Volunteer Registration and Medical Consent Form. 

Photos: Volunteers are encouraged to take photos of the event and tag Reality Changers on social media! Volunteers may not take photos of individual students or families.
